FEEDING

Flagtails are very good algae eaters so adequate lighting is helpful to promote its growth. Though omnivorous it’s primarily a herbivore. Offer plenty of vegetable matter in the form of blanched spinach, lettuce, cucumber, algae wafers and similar. It will also accept most good quality dried foods and small frozen fare such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, or daphnia.

BREEDING

Difficult to tell the sex, although mature females are said to be rounder-bellied than males. They are known to be egg scatterers, and migrate long distances in the wild to spawn. Due to their large adult size it is unlikely that they will spawn in an aquarium. The fish can reach around 35 cm.

WATER QUALITY REQUIREMENT

Red flagtail is very easy to take care. The range of the best temperature is 23-30 C, while pH can be maintain at pH 5.5 – 7.5.
